The Department of Criminology is offering a Graduate Teaching Assistantship for January 2014 entry to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. Assistantship will pay full-time University UK/EU tuition fees for four years and includes an annual maintenance grant and salary. Graduate Teaching Assistantship is open to Graduate Teaching Assistantshipapplicants wishing to pursue doctoral research in any area of criminology that can be supervised by the Department’s academic staff. Graduate Teaching Assistantships allows you to fund your PhD study through part-time teaching work with the University. The Graduate Teaching Assistant is responsible to the Head of Department and is expected to undertake teaching-related duties as required within the Department, not normally exceeding the equivalent of six/seven contact hours per week during term time.

Assistantship is provided in the field of the psychology of evil, prison architecture, policing, and organized crime in commercial, settings, hate crime, security and risk management and forensic science in the criminal justice system.

Applicant’s Eligibility for Graduate Teaching Assistantship:

-Applicants must have a first-class or high upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline and meet the University’s standard English language entry requirements. It is expected that applicants will have a relevant Masters degree or be able to show evidence that they will achieve this before

-It is desirable that applicants should have teaching experience.

-This post  is open to suitable UK/EU and International (i.e., outside the EU) applicants. Please note though that the award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only. International applicants (and those not eligible to pay UK/EU tuition fees) must demonstrate at the time of their application that they can fund the difference in tuition fee rates.
